We started our first afternoon exploring the Irawan Ecopark as soon as we arrived. We were alerted by the calls of the Palawan Hornbills and we got nice views of at least four birds. Our main target bird here was the elusive Falcated Wren Babbler that we soon found and gave us excellent views. Seeing one of the main Palawan endemic target birds on our first afternoon was more than welcome and a very nice start for the following days.

We visited the Central Sierra Madre Mountains in Baler, Aurora near San Luis. We spent four nights camping and three full days birding in the middle of these excellent, forested hills. This proved to be a splendid site for several of the Sierra Madre specialties. Whiskered Pitta gave stunning views with at least 3 birds heard and one seen during our trip.

With a very early start from Manila, we arrived before dawn at Subic Bay. Soon enough, we had our first view of a Chocolate Boobook which was a very nice start for our birding trip in Subic. We had good, long views of the rare White-fronted Tit, our first specialty for the morning.

We had a five-day customized trip to the Sierra Madre Mountains primarily in search of the Whiskered Pitta at Camp Sawa. We started with a long walk towards Camp One and as soon as we reached the first small forested patch, we got splendid views of Luzon White-browed Shama. Another welcome sighting was that of the rapidly declining Philippine Collared-Dove.
